Coming from a rough background, Jermain Taylor managed to pull his life back together. Used to be known as a young up and comer, Taylor is now past that as he is the undisputed Middleweight champion with a win over former pound for pound king Bernard Hopkins. As much as you can dispute that victory, think of all things Taylor overcame during that fight. He was facing the most dangerous fighter in the world (Hopkins at that time was ranked number one pound for pound) and something you can't criticize in Taylor that night was his gritty approach. After a dull yet more decisive victory versus Hopkins later that year, Taylor drew with number two pound for pound fighter, Ronald "Winky' Wright. A rematch with Wright is nearly inevitable, although it has seemed to diminish (the thought of a rematch) since Wright's loss to Bernard Hopkins. Taylor is facing top contender Kelly Pavlik next. |
