Once a sparring partner for the great Julio Cesar Chavez, Jose definitely mimicked J.C.'s style in the ring. Mimicked it so well he became WBC lightweight champion with a stunning upset of reigning champ Stevie Johnson. His two greatest moments were his losses to Pound for Pound #1 Floyd Mayweather, in which he lost both fights but fought excellently in both. In the first fight many thought he beat Mayweather, Harold Lederman and I scored it 115-111 for Castillo. Recently he was in the greatest fight I ever saw (many agreed) with pound for pound puncher Diego Corrales in which they fought at a furious pace - rocking each other whenever they landed flush- for nine rounds until the end for Castillo in the tenth. Castillo got his revenge with a lopsided kayo of his rival in October 2005. Castillo as great as he is has suffered two setbacks. The first, his snoozer against Rolando Reyes. The second, not making weight for his third bout with Corrales which ultimately cancelled the bout and Castillo was fines 200,000 dollars. The third bout drew an all-time low to Castillo's career, this time when he failed to make weight, the bout was cancelled. If that wasn't bad enough, Castillo's fourth round knockout defeat to Ricky Hatton most likely put him out of action for good. |
