Erik Morales has a great record against Hall of Fame caliber fighters. Daniel Zaragoza, Marco Antonio Barrera, Junior Jones, Kevin Kelley, and Manny Pacquiao...and he beat every single one of them (though he lost 2 out of 3 to Barrera but he still one the first bout). His tricky counter-punching style, howitzer right hand, and heart and chin will not be matched by anyone out of the elite. Though his attitude may be compared more to Julio Cesar Chavez, he still is an awesome fighter. Two of his three wars with Marco Antonio Barrera were Ring Magazine's Fight of the Year. Early 2005 he did a paintjob on Manny Pacquiao over 12 rounds who destroyed the man to beat Morales in November 2004 (that was Barrera). Erik may not be the most talented fighter out there but he uses every weapon the best he can and showed his best is more than enough for non elite fighters. Erik seemed to hit the wall with back to back losses to Manny Pacquiao and Zahir Raheem. A third, and more embarrassing of a defeat to Pacquiao in November possibly closed the book on Morales' tumultuous, and legendary career. But Morales continued to fight, and attempted to make history by becoming the first Mexican to win titles in four separate weight divisions. This too was unsuccessful as mediocre titlist David Diaz edged him out in August of '07. |
